Gold Prints
February 2003
Gold prints sometimes called fancy prints, are those grandiose purples, vibrant
reds, hot pinks, beaming blues, and deep greens offset with gold. The motifs
are representative of Afrikan culture, both traditional and modern. Gold
prints clearly have a right and wrong side. This 100% cotton fabric is printed
or stamped only on one side, unlike many wax prints which are stamped on both.
Those of us who love fabric can't help stopping to look at and to feel those
prints because, it seems, they have a mesmerizing affect. Perhaps this is
one of the characteristics that has made the gold print one of the most popular
fabrics in Europe and the United States today.
In the U.S., where there is a mixing of customs creating a very unique culture,
gold prints are making their mark in the fashion industry. They are being
used in home furnishings such as: lines, draperies, table settings, etc; and in
articles of clothing like: vest, dresses, and jackets just to name a few.
So if the gold prints beckon to you and you find one that really catches your
eye, perhaps it is time for something new and exciting.
